The Long Beach Police Department has been receiving numerous reports regarding a scam in which the caller is pretending to represent the LBPD by "spoofing" or falsely imitating the  Department phone number (431-1800) on Caller ID. The scammer has been demanding payment to assist with a computer virus on the victims home computer.

The LBPD would like to strongly stress that we WILL NEVER call and request money, credit or debit card numbers, money orders, passwords, or PINs. If you receive a call like the example above, it is a scam.

As always, if you are aware of any suspicious activity, please contact the Long Beach Police Department's non-emergency line at 431-180
